S: After the school massacre in Erfurt 2001 media blamed computer games and metal bands once again. Your band’s name could be read, too. What do you think about this? JS: I think it´s sad that they always blame culture movements when a tragedy like this happens. If it really was computer games or music that made such things happen, we would have kids running around killing people every single day of the week! The ones who claims such things should look into how the kid grew up and what their parents had done to the kid at first. No one that is sane will do such a thing just because of music of computer games.
S: A lot of people love Bryan Adams and say Entombed was no music. How can we get them to listen to the real stuff? JS: I don’t want them to listen to us in the first place.
S: Do you like so called „new metal“? JS: No, not really.
S: What are your three favourite albums besides metal? JS: Hmm.. Bob Marley „Catch a fire“, Ice Cube „The Predator“ and The soundtrack to The Omen movie.
S: If you had to choose: KISS or Judas Priest? JS: Judas Priest
S: After „Uprising“ I thought maximum is reached, but than the great „Morning Star“ rised and kicked the teeth out of my face. What will happen on your next album? Harder, faster, darker…? JS: Most definetely!!
S: What is the most blasphemous sentence you can imagine? JS: Anything religious.
S: What was your first car? RM: My 1st car was a 1966 Dodge Duster.
S: What cars do you own today? RM: Today I own a 1950 Ford Custom and a 1932 Chevy Hot Rod Coupe.
S: Tell us about the rumblers. RM: The Rumblers CC is greaser rock n roll club with no cars later than 1965. We consider ourselves Hot Rod Hooligans. Check out the website at www.rumblersNYC.com
S: Ever thought of buying a 2002 model? What would it be? RM: Probably the new Renault Mini.
S: What is your personal dreamcar? RM: I own it already. 1932 Hot Rod Coupe.
S: Horsepower – how much is enough? RM: realistically, it all depends on what weight it needs to push. I am very happy with my vintage Rocket 303 engine in my ’32 Coupe.
S: What do you think is the fascination in cars? RM: I am a motorhead. I always loved bikes and cars. That is why I work for Harley Davidson also. I just like the outcast lifestyle and the attitude that these bad ass machines reflect Hardcore!
S: You became a skinhead in 1969 when your were 12 years old. What was it like back in the time the skinhead-movement started. B: Well, I was following around my bigger brother who was also into it. At that time there was the Trojan explosion going on, so there was all kinds of reggae and ska in the radio. Back then we used to dress in whatever we could get our hands on. The modern conception of what skinheads wear doesn’t really conform to what was actually available at the time.
S: You have a 20-year-jubilee this year. Can you remeber the time it all began and your first gig at the CBGB’s in ’81? B: Yeah, we made $22, it was on a tuesday night. Since that there have been about 3500 more concerts!!
S: What was the funniest moment in your band’s history? B: Breaking down in the no mans land between est- and west-berlin and having to push the van into berlin. As said on your concert, is it true you’re not playing for money but for ass? Haha..You’d better ask Ruby and Sledge about that. Free beer is always good.
S: What are your favourite bands beside ska-music? B: Mostly soul and blues. I also like african music, like Sunny Ade and so.
S: Five records would you advise someone who is „new“ in ska-music? B: The Specials – anything Harder They Come Soundtrack Club Ska 67 Skanking Round The World Vol.1 Toots And The Maytals
S: Your own label Moon-Ska had to give up. Are there plans for a new one? B: Not yet. I’m stil getting over that!!
S: Tell us about your new album. When will it released and what can we expect? B: It will be released in may. It should be what you’d expect from a Toasters album. Varied styles of songs both fast and slow.
S: If you had three wishes, what would they be? B: 1.) To have enough money to retire and just play when i felt like it 2.) Plymouth Argyle win the FA Cup 3.) Budweiser goes out of business
N e w Y o r k – Can you dig it? Die Turbo A.C.’s kommen aus New York, sind zu dritt und treten dir gewaltig in den Arsch!
Kevin Prunty (drums), Kevin Cole (lead vocals, guitar) & Michael Dolan (bass, vocals)
„Fuck you man, you don’t understand, I’m a radioactive garbage man, you get smashed if you get in my way.“ Die Turbo A.C.’s erwecken nicht gerade den Eindruck, als würden sie sich gerne reinreden lassen. In diesem Sinne: Born to lose – live to win.
S: Social Distortion’s Mike Ness made two solo-albums making clear what his roots are. Do you like his work? What are your musical roots? KC: Well. Mike is an old friend of mine, but honestly I like the Social Distortion stuff better. If I was to do a solo album to define my roots it would probably sound like old Blitz or the Cocney Rejects.
S: Have you heard about the swedish bands The Hellacopters, Backyard Babies or Puffball? If yes, do you like their work? KC: Hell yeah, more buddies of mine, (actually I never met Puffball) and yeah they rock. Except sometimes they remind me too much of other bands.
S: When you look at the music business, what do you really hate? KC: What bothers me is how people can like stuff that really sucks, but is popular because some big company shoves it down everybody’s throat. But that’s not really all the music business’s fault, it’s the stupidity of general public. What I hate about the music biz is that it takes fucking forever to get anything done.
S: Can you live from your music or do you have additional jobs? KC: While we’re on tour we make enough, but in the rest of the time we all work. We figure we should just tour all time.
S: On „Winner Take All“ you often talk about not to come into your way. Do you have a certain concept of the enemy or is to say that you will not chick out, iif there’s a problem? KC: „Get outta my way“, „Comin thru“, it’s the way I feel, and always have. To me it’s always been the message of rock’n’roll (expecially punk rock), so it’s what we sing about. Going for more out of life than what everybody expects.
S: Live fast, die slow. What’s your attitude of mind to getting older? do you care about someday being old? KC: That phrase has a lot of meanings, you can make your own. I don’t care about getting old, in fact, I have a feeling I’ll live till I’m very old.
S: How many tattoos do you have. which one is the most important? KC: How many tattoos? … Shit I don’t know … a lot, but not enough. Some have more personal meaning, and some are more about the art. There is too many stories for the ones with personal meaning, enough for a whole book.
S: We are looking forward to a new Turbo A.C.’s album. How long will we have to wait? KC: Hopefully not long, the new album is done. I think it’s the best stuff we have ever recorded. This time I had my old friend Roger Miret from Agnostic Front come in to produce it with me. He got us in a great studio and it sounds fucking great!! I can’t wait for everyone to hear it, but then again that’s what I hate about the music biz. We’re sitting around waiting for our managers to have meetings with lawyers to have meetings with record comanies to have meetings with … bla bla bla … ugh!!! Yep, I hate it.
S: When will we have the chance to see you live in germany? KC: I wish I could tell you next week, but, you know, bla bla bla, bullshit music biz stuff. We planned on coming this summer, but the new album has to come out, and we have tour over here too. Tell everyone to keep in touch with us with letters or e-mail and we’ll keep them posted on tour dates.
S: One wish to make the world a better place? KC: I wish that you would give me a million wishes…
