Interview mit den Me First & The Gimme Gimmes

Anlässlich ihres neuen Albums “Take A Break”, auf dem sich die Me First & The Gimme Gimmes als große Steve Wonder-, Prince- und BoyzIIMen-Fans outen, haben wir ein Interview mit den Königen der Punkrock-Coverversion gemacht. Gitarrist Chris a.k.a. Jake Jackson (sonst bei den Foo Fighters) stand uns Rede und Antwort:

Me First & The Gimme Gimmes - Take A Break_shreddermag

S: First of all, how’s your Drummer?

J: who? dave just dave? he’s quite well actually. thanks for asking!

S: How do you decide, what songs to take?

J: we PLAY songs – we TAKE drugs. there’s a difference. we usually run all options thru the fat song selection committee.

S: After you know what song you play, how do you proceed?

J: first is the arduous task of figuring out how to play it, and then we have to see if it makes a good punk song. often times, they don’t.

S: I heard roumors about a 7″ containing Michael Jackson covers only? Is there any truth in that?

J: we have been known to release 7 inches in the past so i’d say it’s a definite possibility.

S: Any plans which genre you will exploit on your next album?

J: we haven’t yet decided which genre to exploit but we always exploit the kids and the scene.

S: Which 3 songs you would never make a cover-version of?

J: we have stacks of songs that have fallen by the wayside.

S: Did you ever get any ressonance how the orignial artists liked your versions?

J: everybody asks us that question and i always give the same answer – no.

S: What are the personal bowling-scores of the gimmes?

J: mike and spike are pretty good but i can’t bowl to save my life.

S: Will you tour in germany some day?

J: we already did. where were you in ’98?

S: Any genuine Me First & The Gimme Gimmes-advices to make this place a better world?

J: listen to our music, best taken with a couple of beers.
